Crédit Mutuel Arkéa sets its climate objectives for 2030
18/12/2023
On 1 December, Crédit Mutuel Arkéa's Board of Directors adopted its first climate objectives for 2030, following on from its membership of the NZBA alliance in 2022. New commitments within the framework of its sectoral policies were also formalised. These strong actions are leading to a number of renunciations and to support for sectoral transformations and transitions, via adapted offers, services and systems. The Crédit Mutuel Arkéa group is committed to a continuous improvement process, developed jointly with its stakeholders, in keeping with its cooperative status and its status as a company with a mission.
As part of its climate strategy, Crédit Mutuel Arkéa made a commitment in 2020 to adopt a low-carbon trajectory for its financing by 2030. This commitment has been strengthened by Crédit Mutuel Arkéa joining the Net Zero Banking Alliance (NZBA) in 2022.
Accompanying environmental transitions requires us to engage in a gradual, long-term process alongside all economic players. Faced with the urgency of climate change, certain sectors of activity and certain practices must undergo profound change as a matter of priority, because their model, with its high greenhouse gas emissions, is not compatible with the objective of the Paris Agreement. Against this backdrop, at its Board meeting on 1 December, the bank adopted new climate objectives that formalise the medium-term direction that will guide its contribution to decarbonisation.
In order to set these targets for 2030, Crédit Mutuel Arkéa has developed methodologies that are likely to evolve according to the extra-financial data available, the quality of the data, changes in the scope covered and future available climate scenarios. Through its annual publications, Crédit Mutuel Arkéa will report on any adjustments and changes to its objectives, in line with its commitment to continuous improvement and transparency.
