Crédit Mutuel Arkéa publishes its 2023 Mission Report
17/07/2024
17/07/2024 - Crédit Mutuel Arkéa announces the publication of its 2023 mission report, verified by an Independent Third-Party Organization (OTI) in accordance with the PACTE law. After presenting its roadmap in its first mission report published in 2022, this new publication sets out in very concrete terms the significant advances made by the cooperative banking group over the past year, reaffirming in complete transparency its determination to align its actions with its social and environmental commitments, at the service of the territories and their stakeholders.
Crédit Mutuel Arkéa was the first banking group to adopt a Raison d'être, in 2020, before becoming a mission-driven company in May 2022. Broken down into five commitments, the Raison d'être forms the basis of the group's long-term strategy and illustrates its ambition to embark on a profound transformation of its model, resolutely focused on supporting environmental and societal transitions, at the service of territories and their stakeholders. In December 2022, the Mission Committee adopted a roadmap for each of these five commitments, with very concrete objectives and measurement indicators to be regularly monitored.
Objectives in line with Crédit Mutuel Arkéa's ambition
This second mission report presents a progress report on the roadmap at the end of 2023. It details the Mission Committee's assessment of the achievement of objectives for each commitment, and highlights illustrations of emblematic actions implemented within the cooperative banking group.
In keeping with the company's commitment to its mission, this report also includes the results of the first independent verification carried out by PwC, as the Independent Third Party Organization (ITPO) appointed to assess the achievement of social and environmental objectives. The report issued by PwC confirms that the objectives have been achieved, that the resources deployed are appropriate and that each of the company's objectives has been respected.
A few examples of convincing results from the 2023 report:
Commitment #1: a balanced approach between financial performance and positive societal and environmental impact, through cooperative governance rooted in our territories.
- The pioneering decision to present the Group's annual results in terms of overall financial and extra-financial performance: according to the measurement methodology, €1m of financing granted generates on average: €22,000 in negative environmental impacts and €145,000 in positive socio-economic impacts.
- A reduction of more than 30% in carbon emissions (scopes 1 and 2) compared with 2021, exceeding the ambition set.
Commitment #2: support each of our stakeholders in their environmental transition
- Annual production of financing for the environmental transition amounts to €1,003 million. The target of 900 M€ set for 2024 was therefore exceeded in 2023.
- Gross annual savings inflows for the environmental transition totaled 689.3 M€, well above the 300 M€ target set for 2024.

- The development of several sectors (maritime, agri-viticulture, real estate) to create synergies between the Group's different areas of expertise in key sectors for local vitality.
- A benchmark employer in its region: 78% of the Group's workforce is based in Brittany and Nouvelle-Aquitaine.
- As a company with a mission, it is a major asset in attracting and retaining talent.

- To reinforce its inclusion strategy, Crédit Mutuel Arkéa has launched an initial Diversity & Inclusion diagnostic to assess employees' feelings of inclusion and discrimination and implement an action plan.
Commitment #5: Promote our collective commitment to serving the common good, in particular by living up to our mutualist values

Next steps
2024 is a pivotal year for Crédit Mutuel Arkéa. It marks both the end of the “Transitions 2024” strategic plan and the preparation of the next medium-term plan, to 2030. The opening of this new cycle will enable us to build a project for the future, perfectly in line with the cooperative banking group's mutualist values and the status of mission-driven company adopted two years ago.
