07/19/2024 - Like an extension of the Fêtes Maritimes de Brest 2024, Choses Maritimes, by Ewan Lebourdais, has been installed at Brest Bretagne Airport one year after, almost to the day, the inauguration of the Entre Ciel et Mer exhibition, which highlighted the arrival in the terminal of one of the planet's largest marine mammals.

Set up on July 7, the exhibition will be on display in the heart of the terminal until September. Ewan Lebourdais presents monumental prints of a selection of some twenty maritime images, collected over the last 10 years thanks to the support of his partner, Crédit Mutuel Arkéa.

Choses Maritimes: a new exhibition at Brest Bretagne Airport

A new exhibition has taken up residence at Brest Bretagne Airport, a year after the inauguration, almost to the day, of Entre Ciel et Mer, which highlighted the arrival of one of the planet's largest marine mammals in the terminal. As an extension of the Fêtes Maritimes de Brest 2024, Choses Maritimes, by Ewan Lebourdais, writes a second chapter in the story of a meeting between sky and sea.

Following last year's installation of a giant fin whale sculpture in the heart of the terminal, it's now the turn of Ewan Lebourdais, photographer appointed official Painter of the Navy, to show us monumental prints of a selection of maritime images collected over the last 10 years, thanks to the support of his partner, Crédit Mutuel Arkéa. Launched on July 7, the exhibition will be on display in the heart of the terminal until September. Comprising some twenty works of varying sizes, up to and including giant formats, the exhibition features images that are sometimes the result of a long process, sometimes of serendipity.

This freely accessible exhibition once again pays tribute to the omnipresence of the sea in our region, including in the architecture of Brest Bretagne Airport. Shaped like a manta ray, a link between sky and sea, it is the perfect setting for Choses Maritimes.

Ewan Lebourdais, photographer - Official Painter of the French Navy: “After ‘Forces sous-marines’ in early 2019, this is the second time I've had the chance to exhibit my work at Brest Bretagne International Airport. It's a really nice setting and the journey is conducive to meeting people. I imagine that users will travel a little further with this exhibition!”

Claude Arphexad, Director of Brest Bretagne Airport: “Brest and the sea are an eternal relationship. After some wonderful Fêtes Maritimes, the dreams continue to delight passengers, thanks to these magnificent visions offered by Ewan Lebourdais”.

Julien Carmona, Chairman of Crédit Mutuel Arkéa: “As part of our cultural activities, we are delighted to continue our collaboration with Ewan Lebourdais, a talented maritime photographer and member of the prestigious order of Peintres officiels de la Marine. We are proud to support him and promote his remarkable artistic work on the sea, the territories and the work of men and women. After being showcased at the Ateliers des Capucins, we are delighted that the Choses Maritimes exhibition will be on display at Brest Bretagne airport throughout the summer. Crédit Mutuel Arkéa, with its long history and strong roots, particularly in Brittany and Nouvelle-Aquitaine, has an intimate link with the world of the sea. We are a local bank-insurance group. And the sea is also the land. It shapes landscapes, structures people's daily lives and drives the economy. In fact, we play an active role in the development of the blue economy, whether in traditional activities, pioneering initiatives to meet major climatic and environmental challenges, or sporting and technological ventures.”
