60 years of the law on the reform of matrimonial regimes

"We celebrate all the women who dare," declared Christine Lagarde, President of the European Central Bank, on the 60th anniversary of the vote on the reform of matrimonial regimes. Catherine Bastian, Marketing Director for Data and Customer Experience of the Group, and Claire Léauté, General Director of our subsidiary Suravenir Assurances, attended an event organized at the Ministry of Economy and Finance on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, in the presence of Clara Chappaz, Minister Delegate for Artificial Intelligence and Digital Affairs.
To celebrate this pivotal date that allowed French women to open a bank account in their name and work without their husband's consent, the Parité Assurance association, in partnership with Crédit Mutuel de Bretagne and Crédit Mutuel du Sud-Ouest, presented a board game dedicated to financial education.
As a mission-driven company, the financial autonomy of women resonates with our commitment to the financial well-being of our clients. Indeed, while the financial emancipation of French women seems to be progressing in the right direction, some figures prove that the road ahead is still long:
- According to a study commissioned by the Financi’Elles association from Etude Forvis Mazars, more than one in three women do not feel financially independent in 2025.
- Additionally, according to IFOP, nearly one in four women has already been exposed to economic violence from their partner. 23% report not having a personal bank account, and 32% have no other source of income than that of their partner.
Professional equality and financial education thus represent two essential levers to continue our efforts for a fairer society.
- At Crédit Mutuel Arkéa, the 14-week leave granted to employees expecting a child was implemented in September 1971, and the birth bonus as well as the parental leave extended to adoption were introduced in March 1975.
- The Group also continues to deploy an ambitious Inclusion strategy with a gender equality index of 94/100.
- We support our most vulnerable clients in managing their finances and budget by providing specific solutions and appropriate education.
Together, let’s continue to work towards a future where the financial independence of women is a reality for all!
